Tampere University offers free study opportunities to degree students who arrive in Finland due to the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. The University grants rights to study in Open University and non-degree courses. There is no application deadline.

Tampere University’s English-language studies are aimed at bachelor’s and master’s level students whose studies have been interrupted at a Ukrainian higher education institution.

Applications will be processed until the end of 2022. The rights to study will be granted until 31 July 2023.

Study Opportunities

In response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, the University of Vaasa offers studies to students at Ukrainian universities. This separate right to study entitles the student to complete individual courses, not an entire degree. The call for applications is aimed at students who have arrived in Finland and have an existing, valid right to study at a Ukrainian university, and whose studies have been discontinued due to the war. These studies are free of charge.

The right to study will be granted based on the applicant’s academic performance, amount and compatibility of their earlier studies with those offered by the University of Vaasa. Applicants should have a sufficient proficiency in English.

Ukraine Solidarity Residencies

Helsinki International Artist Programme

Ukraine Solidarity Residencies (formerly Emergency Residencies) offer residencies and accommodation for Ukrainian and Ukraine-based artists and art professionals that have been effected by the war in Ukraine. The aspirations of the collaboration are to promote solidarity by establishing sustainable support networks and finding the means for Ukrainian artists to continue their practices.

The program was started in March 2022 by a group of independent art organisations who joined together to pool resources and share information. The current partners are AARK, Connecting Points programme, Fairres, Frame Contemporary Art Finland, Goethe-Institut Finnland, HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme, Pro Artibus, The Finnish Artists’ Studio Foundation, The Finnish Illustration Association Kuvittajat and Saari Residence.

The residencies are located in various places around southern Finland. Accommodation, travel and living costs of the residents are covered as part of the program. The residency period generally lasts from 1 week up to 3 months. The residencies can host a single artist or artist with family members (up to 4 people).
